Studying...

Since I made such a big deal about it in my last blog, I'm not going to carry on with it too much; except to say that I'm studying - again - for the GMAT. Why again? Cause I never took it in the first place. I used the excuse of moving to a different city (a pretty good one if you ask me) to put it off and it was just sitting there in the back of my mind. Last Monday I bit the bullet and decided to pay for the test ($250 big ones!) which essentially forced me to study for it. Pray that by 7:30pm this Saturday that I never have to worry about another standardized test again in my life. But then again, I might have to retake it based on my scores. I guess you should just pray for me in general:(

On a much brighter note - it's brighter out! And for longer. Daylight savings time in the bay hit just as Spring weather was kicking into full gear. I know for all you east-coasters "it's technically not spring yet," but it sure does feel like that over here on the left coast! Makes my studying that much more enjoyable/unproductive. See where I was doing some Sunday afternoon studying yesterday:

Picasa

So I'm still getting the hang of all this new Picasa software, but I think I've more or less figured out how to post pics to my blog once again. These ones are from a wonderful Sunday picnic trip to Tamales bay for never-been-fresher oysters with the Landa family. So much fun and good food. If the layout of the pics stink, here is the entire album:

A full month

between posts, but all is okay.

I'm still recovering from a full weekend with beautiful weather good friends and great food and little sleep. Solid. I'm one of the few unfortunate souls who is working today, but I'm just getting done with a case that prevented me from updating or doing much else in my life. I'm excited to move on to more interesting stuff (the energy markets - not so exciting after four weeks) and have a little time at night. However, I'm hoping that this particular night if filled with lots of sleep.

More later.

Up early in the morning.

But not for work. To step on my first-ever flight to NYC's JFK airport to begin my first ever trip to NYC. Sweet!

Touristing

So I don’t really know where I am right now. But that’s okay considering the view is gorgeous, and the weather immaculate. Well, I lie. I am somewhere on the western edge of San Francisco, somewhere near a place called The Presidio. In front of me is a gigantic dome and dozens of Romanesque columns layed out in front of a duck-filled pond; it all doesn’t really fit in the San Francisco aesthetic, but oddly seems to work in this environment. The tourists seem to love it anyway.

I got here today by fulfilling a New Year’s resolution of sorts to myself. I promised myself I would be a tourist in my own city and discover all the great things that SF has to offer. So I started off around 1pm (keep in mind this is the day after New Year’s) and walked to the eight blocks north to Fisherman’s Wharf. I was gunning for some In-N-Out, but I remembered that crab season had just started, so I opted for a tableside crab sandwich with the tourists. But I had already seen this place, so I started off west. A quick view of the art galleries on Beach St. with paintings that I could never afford, and then on further west. There’s one particular bus route that I knew would get me back to the North Beach area, so I traced that bus line, to see where it would take me. I happened through the main retail area of the Marina which reminded me a bunch of Palo Alto. There was even a Mexican restaurant there – Andale – that I have only seen in the Marina and PA. Bleh, I scooted through quickly. I’ll be back to party here eventually. On the horizon I saw the bright orange dome and walked toward it. Beautiful. There’s also something here called the Exploratorium which I will have to visit at a later point. But for now the sun has just gone down over the fake ruins, so I’m afraid it’s time for me to move on.

I’m starting to really love this city and what it has to offer.
